UNITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS (Sept. 9, 2017

The Blueprint for Functional Unity calls for an election each year to select four (4) new members to the Unity
Council of the African Community Center. Any member of our community, 16 years and older can be
nominated and elected.

This years election is set for Saturday, September 9, 2017. Four new members will replace Council Members
who will have served their three year term. This practice insures that there is new energy and ideas coming
onto the Council each year.

NOMINATIONS (Do It Now!)

All nominations for our next election, must be completed and returned to the Center by July 15, 2017. Any
member of our community, 16 years and older and residing in the Atlanta metro area can be nominated.

UNITY COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITY

The Blueprint for Functional Unity makes it very clear that the Unity Council has only two responsibilities;       .
(1). To govern the local Center, and (2). To "Voice" or speak out on behalf of our community and people.

1. To govern the local Center: This would include selecting a Center Director and making sure the local          
Center operates within the letter and spirit of the Blueprint For Functional Unity.

2.  To "Voice" on behalf of our community and people: The Blueprint ask the Unity Council to voice in              
three ways and three ways only. The following is taken directly from the Blueprint.










VOTING (CUMULATIVE VOTING)

For the election of our local Unity Council, the African Community Centers use a form of voting called
"cumulative voting". Each individual voter will have four (4) votes, one for each seat to be filled. The
individual voter can give all of his or her votes to one person on the ballot or divide them any way they
choose.

1. Identify factors that are positive to the development and well-being of our people
and                    encourage broad support of these factors.

2. Identify factors that are negative to the development and well-being of our people
and                   encourage broad opposition to these factors.

3. Identify areas of need that require new initiatives and encourage development and support.
